The Guide To Stock Photography:

The ultimate guide to stock photography is a series of posts covering a variety of topics that will make you successful. You can refer back to it at anytime during your process. Also included on this page are some general FAQ’s about what is needed to get started and what you can expect.

FAQ’s:

Q: What will it cost me?

A:  It will not cost you anything to sign up with an agency or get help from us. The only cost to you will be your photography equipment and optionally hiring models if you choose to do so.

Q: What equipment do you need?

A: You should have a DSLR camera and Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom editing programs.  We also use several other programs to combine images which we will discuss later.

Q: Do I need a studio?

A:  No. You could do fine just shooting outside or in your home. It does limit your subject matter a little, but there are commercial photographers that make a living just shooting food in their kitchens.

Q: Can I make a living doing this?

A:  You won’t get rich quick, but you will certainly build a growing revenue stream that is residual income, and is capable of supporting a family.  We’ve made our living only off of commercial photography for the last 10 years.  It took us about a year of working hard at photography in our free time while doing our other jobs before we quit those and did this full time.

Q: Am I good enough to do this?

A: We wondered the same thing. If you have the proper equipment and some time you’ll succeed. There is no reason to not start selling your photos that you are already spending the time to produce. The best part is that as you do this you’ll get better very quickly.
